During the two years of being tied to home we have been dreaming of travel, one of our retirement passions. When we learned of this opportunity to trek to Machu Picchu as part of a fundraising challenge for CUSO, we decided that we wanted to begin again with this trip, combining our love of travel with our desire to suppport CUSO.
For over 45 years, after Darlene reurned from a CUSO posting in Zambia ('73 - '75), we have been strong financial supporters of this organization. CUSO International is a development organization that works to reduce poverty and inequality around the world through the efforts of highly skilled volunteers, collaborative partnerships, and compassionate donors. As part of our adventure, before we set out on our trek, we will visit one of CUSO's eco-tourism partnerships in Peru.
We will be self-funding our trip but in addition have pledged to fundraise $8,000 for CUSO's vital work - the reason for this page.
For your information, Global Affairs Canada provides CUSO with $6 of funding for every $1 of donations received and Mark, the tax accountant, reminds you that most charitable donations provide a 45% tax credit when you file your tax return, therefore a $100 donation becomes $700 for CUSO and only costs you $55!
We hope you will consider making a gift today.
