Hey! I'm Rebecca. Thanks for visiting my page. Let me tell you about my journey with Cuso International.
In August 2018, I moved to Assosa Ethiopia working with Cuso International at the Regional Health Bureau in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region, about 40km from the border of South Sudan. I worked with the Regional Health Bureau doing health promotion and public relations. During this time, I worked on a National Cervical Cancer Vaccination Campaign. I worked alongside colleagues from the Bureau, UNICEF and WHO to build strategic communication plans in relation to the vaccine role out and successfully launch the first-ever female voice recording for promotion of a health issue in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region.
After the success of the campaign, I worked with the Country Program Office in Ethiopia and their partner, the Institute of International Education on the submission of a Global Affairs Canada grant that reduces barriers to education for women and girls. I’m thrilled to announce that Cuso International was awarded 13 million dollars over the next five years for a program that seeks to empower female youth and remove cultural barriers to accessing education. These successes would NOT have been made possible without the generous contributions of my community prior to my departure.
This December, I will be traveling back to Ethiopia with Cuso International to assist in project planning for the UGIRLS2 program. I am delighted to work on this project from inception and to roll-out. We estimate that this program will reach hundreds of participations and provide support to not only their families, but their communities, boys, educators and administrators to name a few.
It is going to be awesome.
But, not free.
Cuso covers the cost of sending each volunteer to their placement and providing them with accommodations with no charge to the volunteer. To do so, they as that each volunteer helps to fundraise a portion of their travel costs. Luckily, we have an agreement with the Canadian Government that matches the donations of Canadians. Right now, for every $1 you donate the Canadian Government will provide $9. That means a $25 contribution becomes $250 and a $100 gift becomes $1000!
Your donation is more than appreciated, it is literally life changing for someone in need.
I hope that you might consider making a small contribution to these efforts.
Thank you so much for you time!
Rebecca
