*** Welcome to our fundraising page! :) ***
(Whether you're here to support Joe, Alyssa or both of us.. you are definitely in the right place!)
Hi everyone! Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit our fundraising page! We are really excited to share with all of you that we have been selected as Cuso International volunteers and before we know it, we will be headed to Mtwara, Tanzania!
You may be wondering who is Cuso International and what do they do?
Cuso International is a development organization that works to reduce poverty and inequality through the efforts of highly skilled volunteers, collaborative partnerships and compassionate donors.
Why are we going and what will we be doing:
Remember those "highly skilled volunteers" we mentioned in the previous paragraph? That’s us! We will be working together and with other volunteers on the Tanzania Local Enterprise Development (T-LED) project as volunteer advisors. This is important because Tanzania’s economy has grown steadily over the past decade, yet this has not translated into significant benefits for the average Tanzanian. We will be spending 12 months living, learning and helping support small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) overcome barriers, with particular attention paid to the additional challenges faced by female-run businesses to contribute to reducing poverty and inequality.
As the Resource Centre Advisor, Joe will be contributing his business skills and play a critical role in establishing T-LED’s Enterprise Innovation Centre (EIC) as a hub of learning for SMEs. EIC will be home to a variety of learning opportunities including events and exhibitions focusing on business development, financial inclusion, computer literacy, as well as promoting an opportunity for female-only space.
Alyssa will be spending her time as a Creative Services/Graphic Design advisor working directly with SMEs to coach and mentor companies on how to develop, create or improve their existing brands and packaging to stand out in the market. This will help to develop their capacity to be considered as a supplier, access new markets and employ more people, thereby ensuring a greater proportion of foreign investment actually benefits local people.
Before we get on the plane, we need your help!
As part of our volunteer journey with Cuso International, we are fundraising $4000 ($2000 each) to help sustain their vital work and enable them to mobilize volunteers, like us, to countries all over the world where people and communities are affected by poverty, exclusion and inequality (https://cusointernational.org/where-we-work/). We hope you will consider making a donation today in support of our campaign. No donation is too small and if you’re feeling generous, of course no donation is too large! :) Together we can give hope and change lives. It takes a village after all, even on a global scale!
Every $1 has the power of $10, because for every $1 you donate the Canadian Government will provide $9. That means a $25 contribution becomes $250 and a $100 donation becomes $1000!
• Donate $10+ and receive a tax receipt automatically via email.
• Donate $50-$99 and we’ll bring you back a small handmade gift from Tanzania (such as beaded jewellery or a wood carving)
• Donate $100+ and we’ll bring you back a personalized gift as a special thank you!
We sincerely appreciate all the support you’ve given us so far in our volunteer journey, that you’ve taken the time to read about what we’ll be doing over the next year and that hopefully you have donated to our campaign. We would also like you to know that this is something YOU can do too. Here is the link to Cuso International’s volunteer placements: https://curawebservices.mindscope.com/CUSOIN04387_CURA/Aspx/jobsearch.aspx. Should any of you decide to pursue one of the listed placements (and we sure hope you do), we look forward to supporting you in your future campaigns!
All the best,
Joe and Alyssa
