This lifetime opportunity came my way when I applied to become a volunteer at CUSO International, a Canadian charitable organization – www.cusointernational.org
WHAT AM I DOING?
I will be going to Myanmar (formerly Burma) and will be based in Nay Pyi Taw (capital city) for 12 months working with a governmental institution, the Department of Rural Development (DRD). Am expected to leave on 1st week of March 2019.
The DRD has for mission, among others, to improve the quality of life of the Myanmar citizens and mitigate poverty and address rural development and bolster up socioeconomic life of rural populace.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO ME?
This once a lifetime opportunity will enable me to do 3 things:
- To represent Canada in a foreign country thereby expressing my gratitude to Canada for having accepted me as a Canadian citizens;
- To assist in the capacity building for Myanmar by putting my competencies and experiences in the HR field at their service;
- To increase my own know how and know who and learn about other cultures – thereby contributing to my self-development.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
I will be helping to achieving DRD’s vision and mission and among others I will be assisting the DRD with the objective of enhancing and improving the day-to-day human resources through implementation of updated and customized HR practices.
My work is on a voluntary basis meaning no salary but CUSO will provide for the flight, reasonable accommodation and minimal stipend during my tenure.
HOW CAN YOU ASSIST?
The average investment for sending a volunteer is $29,000 CAN. Canadian government matches all donations by 9 times. For example, with a donation of $100 CAN the Canadian government will give $900 CAN. Each volunteer has to fundraise a minimum of $2000 CAN towards his project and preferably before departure - in my case - 1st week of March 2019.
I would be grateful if you could please assist me in my fundraising activity, which is tax deductible. Any amount is more than welcome. Please click on the green Donate Now button to make your donation.
